“I did my first neighborhood training this past Saturday at my place and it went really well!  I think everyone had a great time and learned a lot from one another. Everyone introduced themselves and shared a few things that they already do to save energy.  That really got the conversation going and set the tone that everyone was here to learn from one another. Folks seemed interested in the Clean Energy Durham tracking tool.  The BINGO game is a great learning activity.”

On Friday September 24, Anne, Danny and Donna hosted the first Neighborhood Energy Retrofit Program Basic Energy Education Training in Spring Valley neighborhood.

From Donna Levy, Spring Valley neighborhood trainer and volunteer extraordinaire:

“We had 10 homes represented (13 attendees).   We found that the content presented was applicable to all homeowners.   The group was very interactive and had some very good questions.  Some we could answer, and some we could not (but plan to get back to the attendees once we find out the answer). All attendees enthusiastically agreed that they learned something from the presentation.”

Two More Neighborhoods Apply For City Home Retrofit Program

Two more neighborhoods – Spring Valley and Colonial Village – have applied for the City of Durham’s Neighborhood Energy Retrofit Program. This brings the total number of applicant neighborhoods to 15.

The program is funded by federal money and there is a limit to the number of homes and neighborhoods that can be funded, so the City will be selecting in March from among the applicant neighborhoods. Clean Energy Durham will be meeting with representatives from the applicant neighborhoods over the next month to answer questions about the program. Neighborhoods that have not yet received confirmation that their applications have been received by the City should contact Tobin Freid immediately at 560-7999.
