The Bike Co-op teaches neighbors bike repair skills. Photo by Jessie Gladin-Kramer,

A few weekends ago, neighbors in Cleveland Holloway gathered for a fun afternoon of bike repair, soul music, and cooking out. DJ Soulful Love played some great tunes, and everyone chowed down on burgers, sausages, desserts, and one neighbor’s special roasted chicken recipe (the secret: marinate in beer and lime juice for two days).

The Durham Bike Co-op set up shop to teach residents how to fix their bikes and passed out around twenty free helmets to kids. Anyone can visit the Co-op (moving soon to a new location on Washington Street) on Thursday nights and Sunday afternoons to work with volunteer mechanics who will teach you how to fix your bike, or even build one!

Thanks to the great neighbors who helped organize the event, and to everyone who came out!
