The first round deadline for submission of the Neighborhood Energy Retrofit Program application is approaching fast. Several neighborhoods are working to complete their applications, but Hillside Park Neighborhood Association was the first neighborhood to submit theirs. To apply, they identified ten committed volunteers to help make the program a success in their neighborhood. Hillside Park is a well organized neighborhood that prides itself on early recognition of important social policy issues; for example, neighborhood association President Joan Packenham reminded her neighbors that Hillside Park was one of the first neighborhoods in Durham to embrace the city recycling program. The neighborhood is located a short distance east of the North Carolina Central University campus.
Clean Energy Durham is excited to congratulate Hillside Park on being the first neighborhood to submit its application. The Hillside Park Neighborhood Association uses a block captain model that complements the Clean Energy Durham Neighborhood Energy Group model. Both models highlight building community, and the Clean Energy Durham model has a distinctive energy resource focus.
