Clean Energy Durham was lucky to receive a generous donation this year from the Durham Jaycees’ annual Haunted House fundraiser. The Jaycees are an organization of young professionals who have dedicated themselves to community service in Durham since 1938. They’re deeply involved in a lot of projects throughout the year, but their biggest event is the annual haunted house. This year’s haunted house raised more than $15,000, which the Jaycees donated to twenty-three local charities.
Clean Energy Durham received the donation at the Jaycees’ holiday banquet, where Ms. Iris Fisher spoke to the audience about her experiences with Clean Energy Durham. After learning energy saving skills from Clean Energy Durham, Ms. Fisher was able to reduce her monthly electricity bill from around $200 to around $80. She is a neighborhood energy leader in Old Five Points, where she helps teach her neighbors and her children what they can do to save money on their energy bills.
A big thank you to the Jaycees, to Ms. Fisher, and to the other non-profits who received generous donations that night; it was moving to hear about all the wonderful work being done in Durham.
